In 1998, the quintet which now composes Robin Black & the Intergalactic Rock Stars was in various glam rock groups in the vibrant Toronto music scene. Lead singer Robin Black was in Ballroom Zombies, while both drummer Kevin Taylor and guitarist Stacey Straye were members of the Conscience Pilate. After those groups disbanded, the musicians found each other and began playing. Known for their high-energy concerts which feature on-stage bartenders and smoke machines, the group continued to win acclaim at various Canadian music showcases. After releasing an EP single, the group returned to the studio to record their debut full-length effort.
