Esther Veitch - ivy, w/ mittens lyrics

ivy, w/ mittens, shivers on a lump of concrete. her figure is illuminated by the hydrogen lamp fizzing & seething from its own heat. beyond this glows the neon sign of a hospital, in which her sister lavender is receiving treatment for bulimia. ivy thumbs a loose string on her left mitten. she wishes she had noticed lavender's sickness sooner. if she had paid more attention, she might have prevented it. she might have made vegetable broth & spoon-fed it into her sister's open mouth. she might have wrapped the girl in crocheted blankets & sat with her until she was sure she had digested the soup. she might have spared lavender from the incoming frost, but now it was too late: she had already wilted.
