Diabolical Masquerade biography

A one-man side project of Katatonia guitarist Anders Nystrom (aka Blackheim), Sweden's Diabolical Masquerade released a string of symphonic and misanthropic black metal albums, starting with 1995's imaginatively titled Ravendusk in My Heart. A one-man side project of Katatonia guitarist Anders Nystrom (aka Blackheim), Sweden's Diabolical Masquerade released a string of symphonic and misanthropic black metal albums, starting with 1995's imaginatively titled Ravendusk in My Heart. The similarly inspired and ill-disposed The Phantom Lodge followed a couple years later, and fan favorite Nightwork in 1998, but with 2001's much delayed d**h's Design, Nystrom's grand schemes arguably achieved their creative climax, this being a full-fledged horror-movie soundtrack. Unfortunately, the movie in question was never released and Diabolical Masquerade never made it to a musical sequel, now widely reported to be in fact defunct. Finally, it's worth noting that famed producer, musician, and Nystrom colleague Dan Swano (Edge of Sanity, Bloodbath, Pan-Thy-Monium, etc.) was rumored to be a silent contributor to some of the above works. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia, All Music Guide
