Dr. Cravens pulls into the office parking lot at 7:45 sharp, his heaping pile of completed charts topped off with the Kansas City Star occupy the pa**enger seat and an extra large cup of coffee in the cup holder. His full day of seeing patients can begin once he has downed his cup of coffee and flipped through the Kansas City Star. The first patient arrives at 8:00, right on time. Dr. Cravens walks into the operatory room to find five year old Timmy, shaking in his red shorts at the sight of his gray mustache and light blue scrubs. Dr. Cravens gives his introduction as he makes his way to his swivel chair to prepare the injection of the Lidocaine. As Timmy's lip quivers, Dr. Cravens very gently inserts the long, then maxillary needle into the tissue of Timmy's upper gums. A small tear trickles down Timmy's left cheek as Dr. Cravens completes the injection and offers his kind apologies for the sharp pinch of the injection. Dr. Cravens returns to the Kansas City Star in his office, pa**ing time as the local anesthetic takes effect. When the time is right, Dr. Cravens returns to Timmy, who is now flicking his upper lip and giggling about the weird rubbery feeling that he can't feel. Dr. Cravens chats with the patient and educates the nervous five year old about the instruments and tools that are used during the procedure, and then he begins. The high speed hand piece whistles as the surface of the upper tooth is sanded away, and once the rough gold bur sinks into the decayed dentin, Dr. Cravens subtly switches to the slow speed hand piece that bumps around the decayed area to remove the small cavity Timmy has acquired. Dr. Cravens compliments Timmy on his bravery as he places the white composite filling material into the newly created hole in Timmy's left lateral tooth. Dr. Cravens cures the filling material with a bright blue light and hands Timmy a mirror to check out his new shiny tooth. Timmy's smile is so large he has to move the mirror father away from his face to see what he wants to see. Dr. Cravens pats Timmy on the shoulder and congratulates him as he gets up from his swivel chair. He returns to his office to check Timmy's name off the schedule and begin his soon-to-be heaping pile of charts. 6. Find a photograph of a family member and write a detailed physical description based on the photo that evokes a sense of the person. At five foot six, sixteen years old, and 174 pounds, this boy thinks he rules the world. His bashful blue eyes and charming soft smile with a small hint of silver strung across his large teeth, he gets under Dad's skin so easily. I like to refer to him as Daddy's little princess. Though his voice is soft spoken and easy ignored, the small phrases he speaks can change a day from torturous to tremendous. He has the muscle of an ox and the speed of a cheetah across the tennis court, impressing all who watch. His motivation and personal goals make dad so proud and thus he is treated like Daddy's little princess.
