After multiple attempts, they were finally able to get it out of her hand without ripping the paper apart. It was a page from a book, and it read of the scariest creature possible, a basilisk. With all the information they had just found out, they realized why the students were Petrified in the first place. They didn't stare it directly in the eyes. Hermione saw its eyes by looking through a mirror. All the ones who were Petrified saw the eyes only through reflections. 11.13.13 I'm reading "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets." There was an announcement that they were finally going to have to defeat the beast that was causing all the problems. It was announced that Prof. Lockhart would be the one to k** the beast, but he was not pleased with that announcement. He was nervous and shaky. Furious that Prof. Lockhart was packing to leave, Harry and Ron attempted to talk some sense into him. Prof. Lockhart admitted that he never did any of those things from his books. He got the stories from other people who did it, and when they finished telling the story, he put a memory charm on them. It made it easier to tell people he did the things when the actual people didn't remember any of it.
