Experiment 5
Once upon a time, there were a couple secretly living in a forest. Both of them are in their fifty's but they still love each other no less then when they first fell in love thirty years ago. They stayed together every day, every hour, and almost every second, just sit together, and talk.
However, the man had to set out to meet someone for an elixir because his wife was dying. When the sun rises, he set off only with his crutch. It would be an easy journey for him. He was going to visit a witch who was living in another forest one mountain away.
He was not tall, only a bit over five and half feet. He never shaved his beard, so he looks older than he really is. There was not many winkle on his face but it was hard to see because his beard was already all over his face.
It was in the middle of the day, but it was dark in the forest because the trees were too exuberate. Hours later, he reached the foot of the mountain, then a brook showed up. It was not too wide, but the current was rapid. Carefully and slowly, he reached his right leg to a stone which is only a little bigger than his foot in the middle of the brook. But when he tried to put his left foot on the stone, he slipped into water.
“Oh, NO!” He cried as he subconsciously held on a stone in the brook.
When he managed to get to the other side of the brook, he found his right shoe as well as the crutch are gone.
“I can do this!” He said to himself.
Then he continued, trying not to focus the pricking on his right foot.
Finally, before the sunset, he reached the wooden house where the witch lived. He was so excited, even he was already a lot over exhausted, he, with a limp, almost run toward the house.
Knocked on the door, he anxiously waited.
The door opened by itself.
“I saw you. I know why you are here.” said with very high pitches in a very weird voice.
“So…” the man hesitated, not knowing whether or not should he step into the dark house.
“I need something from you. Come on in.” said in the same voice.
He saw nothing but darkness when he stepped into the house. “I can give you whatever I have only if you can save my wife. Please!”
“HAHAHAHA! Good! I also need you to do me a favor.” Then a dirk and a pot showed up in front of the old man, “Put your heart in the pot.”
The man picked up the dirk and stared at it.
There was nothing. No light, no sound, he could not even hear his own breath and heartbeat.
“Could you…” after quite a while, said the poor man in a trembling voice, “make sure to save her?” he begged.
“You'll see!”
He took a deep breath, he poked the dirk to his chest, with a tear dropped on his beard.
Once again, when he opened his eyes, he saw her, sitting in front of the gate of heaven, smiling and waiting for him.
