Back in April
Back in April the wind was like gentle hands lifting up strands of my hair
On the boulevard ladies and gentlemen seemingly float through the air
Very dreamlike the cherry trees blossoming seemed so impossibly there
You and me, underneath cherry trees back in April
There we lay our heads down where we were
With our backs to the green, and the earth
Back in April, back in the heart of a long winter's end
Yeah, there we lay down our arms, as we do
See the seasons they change, me and you
And so we were, and everything was young and new again
A numbing winter, a cold unrelenting wind stripped us of all we might feel
Back in April we walked through the tulips, I kneeled to make sure they were real
Very dreamlike the scope and intensity colors too vivid to bear
You and me we were under the trees back in April
There we lay our heads down where we were
With our backs to the green, and the earth
Back in April, back in the heart of a long winter's end
Yeah, there we lay down our arms, as we do
See the seasons they change, me and you
And so we were, and everything was young and new again
Back in April the maples were sheltering, welcoming under the fold
Hosting our tales and stories of wind and the wail of the bone cold
Deep in August life bathing in summer sun's washed winter memories clean
In the warmth here our limbs loosed we're lulled to believing all is as it seems
The greening of willow, the shock of forsythia, seems like a faraway dream
Oh, but how we loved the sycamore trees back in April
There we lay our heads down where we were
With our backs to the green, and the earth
Back in April, back in the heart of a long winter's end
Yeah, there we lay down our arms, as we do
See the seasons they changed, me and you
And so we were, and everything was young and new again
And so we were and everything was young and new again
