Someone had to do something
Things had gotten out of hand
Beyond these city limits
There’s nothing but heat, sun and sand
The children whispered to each other
The women lowered their eyes
Two emaciated horses
Flagged their tails at flies
There’s no place to hide from the unforgiving sky
And I know that I don’t have long
Until the relentless red glare has me gasping for air
Wondеring where did I go wrong
A silhouettе stepped off of the sidewalk
But his future was grim
When he reached for his sidearm
I drew faster than him
The bullets found their target
He fell forward to his knees
He put his hand over his chest
And the last words he said was “God help me please”
I threw a leg over Fiona
I rode her out of town
I winced in the saddle
I felt the blood in my boot and the sun beating down
The temperature will rise like a halo of flies
And I know that it won’t be long
Until the relentless red glare has me gasping for air
Wondering where did I go wrong
