I promised you
I'd send you money when I got here
But when I got here
There was no work to find anywhere
So I slaved up the mountain
And rolled down rocks from the top
Hoping that I'd one day
Fill this valley up
But for every stone I rolled down
The mountain got slightly smaller
Until the rocks that I had rolled down
Had leveled the earth
I promised I'd send back gold
When I got to the river
I was sure that the sandy bed
Would soon deliver
So I filled my buckets
And drew them up
I filtered through every
Corn of sand I pulled up
But for every bucket I pulled
The level got slightly lower
Until the very last bucket I pulled
Had emptied the river
