Our lips puckered
from the bitter lemons
of past
Seeping
into cracked sores
Our stomachs turned
from the tequila
we forced ourselves
to taste
after mutual friends
raised arms to salute
special occasions
We flinched
from the salt
we rubbed into wounds
while standing
on opposite sides
of the bar
Special occasions
always brought together
such an all-star cast
So we swallowed
our shot of pride
and just darted
our eyes.
