You can pry open a rosebud,
Pulling its petals apart.
The result it will wither and die.
It has not unfolded its heart.
It takes roots, water and sun.
It takes time the natural way.
Then when petals separate
Their fragrance and beauty's displayed.
We can learn from the rose and this process
Not to rush,
Just be patient and grow.
Then our gifts will shine to others
As it's true we reap what we sow.
But only in time like the rose
Not through force or control or power,
Rather faith in the source of love
Allows beauty to blossom and flower.
Through the Shadows
Our journey through life is often clouded by shadows
Like under trees on a gloomy day.
Time seems to stand still.
Our steps are slow and heavy.
Until at last we look ahead and see the warm sunlight.
Without awareness of the many miles we've traveled.
We are refreshed as we step into the rays.
Continuing our journey with stronger faith.
Knowing more shadows will befall us.
Knowing too we are being drawn to the light.
