I caught the sunshine just for you
All day I ran around
Chasing the rays of Sun
They touched every surface
The metallic table,
The rugged road,
The newly trimmed palm tree leaves,
And on every surface there was a glow that said
I've been touched by sunshine
I've been touched by life
And even the rugged road
So black and so stern
Smirked a little saying “I've been touched by warmth”
All throughout noon I giggled and laughed running after Her
I hid ‘round corners attempting to take the sun by surprise
Without success every time
So I laid down
Smiles in my eyes
Blood flowing to my finger tips
The falling and rising of my chest matching the heightened warmth of the day
Thinking
How was I ever going to catch the devilish giggling rays of Sun
I thought about how they surprised me when I looked around the corner
And how they led me on a wild chase, a child's voice laughing back at me ringing with
purity urging me to run after
As I thought about the sunshine−
My hands interlocked, placed upon my chest,
A ray of laughing light kissed me on the cheek
I beckoned the ray to come sit in my hand
The laughing light listened
And for a second she was serene
For a second she was tame
And she just glowed there
It was my intention to bring her back to you
But as quickly as I caught her
I let her go
To romp like wild in the limitless sky
I could not break such a pure spirit
So instead of bringing you back the sunshine
I bring you back this poem.
And maybe someday we can chase the sunshine together
And instead of looking at the rays of sun
Perhaps I can look into your vibrant eyes
And see that same pure spirit mixing with my limitless heart
