My lady sits in a castle tower
She's both pale and fair
A prisoner kept behind strong bars
And many a tear shed there
A lady alone in the castle tower
Her jailer is ruthless and dire
To rescue her I'd risk my life
Like those who have gone before
From her window she watches the world
Her view is broad and wide
A cloud of sand in the distance
As to her aid he rides
Past the gates where skewered on posts
A collection of terrified heads
All that remains of his predecessors
To fail is to end up dead
He enters the main castle hall
Where we servants work
Younger and more gentle than the rest
In pity to him I talk
Turn back, you have no hope
No one can set her free
If you value life, forget her
And ride away at top speed
He will not heed a warning
Up the stair he climbs
At the top of the tower a door
But no jailer will he find
The door will open to let him in
And like the others before
The lady he seeks he'll find
And in her hand, a sword
You'd rescue me, bold knight
You'd risk your life for me
But what leads you to believe
That I want to be free?
I'll be summoned by her bell
To clear the body from the floor
The door will close, the key will turn
Left alone once more
