What I thought was mine turned out to be somebody else's
Property and legal claim and all my high hopes fell
What I thought belonged to me I had to give away
To its rightful owner, where it rightfully should stay
And so again I stand without what I thought was mine
Gets me everytime
What I thought was mine was a variety of things
All meant to bring the joy that most things beautiful will bring
What I thought I had the right to was taken long ago
By someone who saw it first and I had to let go
So again I stand without, I won't admit to crime
It was not on purpose
Honestly, I thought that it was mine
And it gets me everytime
