Here's a story about a little girl
Growing up in her parents world
Going through life, making the grade
Quiet and shy, always afraid
Growing up in a little nest
Working hard, doing her best
Happy and perfect, she would seem
But, suddenly, she dared to dream
Dreaming of life in the fast lane
Where each loss is another's gain
Dreaming of tomorrow, living for someday
It was for a life of this that she ran away
With her friends, she lived in a car
Living on the edge, they knew they'd get far
Suddenly, out in the real world
She was no longer that scared little girl
She learned the hard way to survive
Doing what she must to stay alive
Taking each struggle in rebellious stride
And in herself, she finally took pride
Years later, she returned to the nest
And even though she tried her best
She couldn't just forget about then
Only to remember when...
The days when she'd sit looking out
Wondering what the world was all about
For, she'd said goodbye to that little girl
And said hello to the cruel world
Well, happy and perfect she tried to seem
Though remembering what it meant to dare to dream
Forgetting what it was like to live free
And wondering who I was, though she was me
