Blue BMX wheels
Through those Georgia fields
Just a boy with daily joy reborn
Explorin' old dirt roads
'Til I began to slow
When I happened 'pon a patch of thorns
Rode on home and grabbed my Louisville Slugger bat
Started forging on through the spikey stalks
Before the end of the day it was my hideaway
A winding path that no one else dared walk
And in those days
I found my peace in a maze
Seeking shelter
From life's little storms
It was a hiding place
For all my childish ways
I found my solace
In a patch of thorns
Wolf at the door, collectors clamor for more
Those simple childhood days I mourn
But I put those things away, get on my knees and pray
As I take shelter in His crown of thorns
Easy come easy go, ain't no mistakin' that
But I'm beyond the days of running away
A hint of God's grace and I can lift my face
Man up and live to fight another day
And now these days
I walk a wicked maze
All sides surrounded
by this raging storm
Oh God my hiding place
Guide me through evil days
Jesus I thank You
For the crown of thorns
Times sure have changed
But You remain the same
Jesus thank You for wearing the crown of thorns
Jesus I thank You for taking on the crown of thorns
Jesus I thank You for the crown of thorns
Jesus I thank You for taking on the crown of thorns
Jesus I thank You for the crown of thorns
Jesus You defeated, you defeated the crown of thorns
Jesus You defeated the crown of thorns
