Miss Maple dressed to go to town
in scarlet scarf and golden crown,
but then Sir Spruce admired her so
that she couldn't bring herself to go
and leave him sadly languishing there
in his dapper suit of brilliant green,
so she stayed and stood in pride serene
on the crest of a hill where she could be seen.
Admired by all who stopped to gaze
rapturously at the gorgeous blaze
of dazzling beauty there on the hill,
she stood posed like this until the wind
in a burst of ribald fun unpinned
the scarf and draperies gay
and with a lewd puff blew them away,
leaving Miss Maple naked and bare
and all the forest to sigh and stare.
