THE FIRST CHRISTMAS STAR
© Krista Detor, The Silver Wood: Wintersongs
I spend all the year wondering what will it be
There in the morning under the tree
And I whisper my wish on the first Christmas Star
Is the moon shining on you wherever you are?
I spend all the year wondering, how have you been
Still reading Shakespeare, was it vodka or gin?
And I wonder again in the blue Christmas light
If somebody else loves you this Christmas Eve night
I'd forget if I could but you know it's no good
All I wanted was you – nice or naughty – I should
Call you up, say hello, how've you been, where'd you go?
What I'd give for one minute ‘neath the sweet mistletoe
But I spend the night wondering if you're wondering too
I'll have my pride in the morning, but I won't have you
I'd forget if I could but you know it's no good
All I wanted was you – nice or naughty – I should
Call you up, say hello, how've you been, where'd you go?
What I'd give for a minute ‘neath the sweet mistletoe
But I spend the night wondering if maybe this year
I'll ring the number I have for you, dear
And then I'll get my wish on the first Christmas Star
That you'll come back, my darling, and bring back my car.
