Too many late nights
My eyes red and sore
As a bottle of wine
Accompanied me to the door.
Your blue eyes twinkled
There was a smirk on your face
As you mentally noted
I was a disgrace.
With smudged mascara
My hair not seen a comb
Since you had left me
Here all alone.
You stood at the door
Blonde hair combed and neat,
Immaculately dressed
Right down to your feet.
My housecoat was scruffy
One slipper was gone,
Nail polish chipped
All had gone wrong.
You opened your arms
As you gave me a smile
Then a**ured me our love
Was more than worthwhile.
At last I was home
Held close to your heart
Knowing nothing on earth
Could ever keep us apart.
