Genius an*lytics provide an insight into which songs and what artists fans are searching for. While an artist may receive heavy radio play and millions of streams, Genius page views offer a fresh metric in a constantly evolving music industry. Below are the lyric driven trends for the third quarter of 2015. Most viewed songs: Q3 2015 Quarter three continued 2015's trend of delivering one of the best years for hip-hop in recent memory. If we told you this time last year a Dr. Dre album was dropping, Drake & Meek Mill would beef (where Drake actually released diss tracks), and two Canadians would be running the game, all within the space of 90 days, you'd call us crazy.
While Dr. Dre didn't make the list, and Fetty Wap makes an impressive three appearances, the highlight of quarter three was Drake and Meek Mill's back and fourth. The clear winner in terms of hits was Drake. "Charged Up" and "Back to Back" combined for 3,725,000 views, while Meek Mill's only record, "Wanna Know," was viewed 970,000 times.
Even with the hype of a rap beef on his side, Drizzy couldn't knock off Abel's "The Hills" in the number one spot. It came as no surprise to Genius when the Canadian crooner replaced himself on Billboard's Hottest 100. "The Hills" has received more than double the amount of hits compared with "Can't Feel My Face" in the last 90 days, with the two songs receiving an insane 4,500,000 views between them.
1. The Weeknd - "The Hills"
2. Drake - "Back to Back"
3. The Weeknd - "Can't Feel My Face"
4. Drake - "Hotline Bling"
5. Meek Mill feat. Nicki Minaj - "All Eyes On You"
6. Fetty Wap feat. Montana Bucks & P-Dice - "679"
7. Drake - "Charged Up"
8. Fetty Wap - "Trap Queen"
9. Meek Mill - "Wanna Know"
10. Fetty Wap feat. Drake - "My Way (Remix)" Most viewed artists: Q3 2015 Anyone a**ociated with Drake seems to benefit from his presence, even if it holds a negative connotation. Future dropped What a Time to Be Alive with Drizzy, while Meek Mill traded jabs with the 6 God. This was both Future and Meeks first time appearing on our trends list - it seems any Drake press is good press.
What's also clear from song and artist data is Canada's dominance
Six out of the ten songs in our top ten songs include either Drake or The Weeknd, so naturally they appear in the number one and two spot on the artist list. The only logical conclusion to draw from the data? An OVO x XO album would break the internet.
