[Dialogue] [Agent: Stricnine Badlandz] “So, I liked the tracks. I like what you're doing.” [Concept Residue] “Awesome, thank you!” [Agent] “We could most definitely use talent like this on the label.” [Concept Residue] “Wow, um, damn.” [Agent] “Yes. So, I'll have my people contact you. Within this week, you can be signing your name on the dotted line.” [Concept Residue] “I mean, I'll have to have a lawyer look it over, but, wow, this is amazing.” [Agent] “Yeah, yeah it is. You should know that we at Rider Records pride ourselves on paying ghostwriters well for their services.” [Concept Residue] “Ghostwriter?” [Agent] “Yes. What? Wait. I'm sorry, you thought I meant signing you as an artist? Like an actual artist, with your own promotion, production, and recording? Is that what you thought?” [Concept Residue] “Well, I mean, it kind of came off like that. In my head at least.” [Agent] “Why is that we have so many kids that are naive enough to think that they can get signed as an artist? That they'll be the star. That they'll have the limelight all to themselves. Just ‘cause they have decent music, they're suitable for the spotlight. Nah. I'm sorry, but that's not how business works. There's a lot more that goes into selecting artists. Besides, you don't even sing.”
[Concept Residue] “So, why do you even want me involved at all?” [Agent] “Because you can write. You have rhythm and lyrical ability. You'll write lyrics for one of our breakout artists, show him how the flow should sound, and then your job is done. Until the next song. So, sign the contract. Take what you can get. It's idiotic to turn down a contract of any kind from Rider Records.” [Concept Residue] “I'm not saying I'm gonna turn it down. I just, I just gotta look it over.” [Agent] “I'll be contacting you with the contract sometime this week. I'd like the signed copy back at the end of this week.” [Concept Residue] “Alright. Well, thank you.” [Agent] “Alright, Mr. Kaczman. Do the smart thing. And we'd prefer if you drop the rap name. Ghostwriters really don't need those.”
