Orphans wake to candlelight
Noses to the Winter windows
Peering down at the dawn-grey streets
Where the life that goes on ebbs and flows
And so another sun goes down
All I am slips through my fingers
Human heat it escapes this town
Pray for warmth and watch it linger
Fire
Fire hotter than the midday sun
Oh to find love's hiding place
We are beggars and bootleggers
Fading embers caught out in the rain
Wondering what's it take to burst into flames
And meanwhile hammers fall on anvils of grief
Molten souls in madmen's cauldrons
Mutineers not allowed to speak
Keep the spark of peace and suddenly there's
Fire
Fire hotter than the midday sun
