So, I bet you all recently heard (or possibly read) that Jesus could have possibly had a wife. Although, the news did not take me by surprise, since I'm no religious person, and frankly, I read The Da Vinci Code, and put a certain amount of trust into Dan Brown's, what seemed to me, credible text.
Dan Brown's Da Vinci, a world-wide bestseller back in 2003, received many bad criticism from Christians and critics alike, for example, Richard Abanes wrote: The most flagrant aspect... is not that Dan Brown disagrees with Christianity but that he utterly warps it in order to disagree with it... to the point of completely rewriting a vast number of historical events. And making the matter worse has been Brown's willingness to pa** off his distortions as ‘facts' with which innumerable scholars and historians agree. Everybody accused Dan of lying, and maybe he did lie, after all, The Da Vinci Code is a fictional story, so why the hate? Why where they so ecstatic about it? What proof do they have that any history is real? Well as Dan said: Men go to far greater lengths to avoid what they fear than to obtain what they desire. So what if the bible was wrong all these years, what if the church edited it's contents to show the world the holiness of Jesus Christ, to make them believe, can any book or paper compete with the Harry Potter of religion? Well, quoting Dan Brown again, History is always written by the winners. When two cultures clash, the loser is obliterated, and the winner writes the history books-books which glorify their own cause and disparage the conquered foe. As Napoleon once said, 'What is history, but a fable agreed upon? No one wanted to have their hole faith shattered by some claims they can't see, hear or feel, the church always did hold the utmost power in the world, and there is no hiding what crimes the Vatican Church did in the past, so why can't a simple editing be done to increase ones belief in something, we all know God exists, whether Christians or not, the question is: What if Jesus had a wife, how much does that change? Can we handle what could possibly be the truth?
And now, thanks to Harvard's many intellectual professors, we have, what can be considered as proof, however, everyone loves a conspiracy, and a peace of paper, no matter how ancient it is, cannot change ones faith in God, for he was there in our time of need, he listened and helped and most of all, forgave. Forgave us when no one else would, and gave us another chance at life, and we cannot ask for more than that.
