Ariana: (Harmonizing) can I have or hear the key please?
Ariana: (Harmonized) Please the key of the song.
Ryan: I think we logged more rooms here than any artist, ever
Ariana singing: I've been living with devils and angels, angels, angels, realize you and I are in the same boat, same boat, yeah.
Benny: You were performing somewhere on the Sunset Strip and it was a long time ago it was like before your single popped off and there was like a million people outside and I was like "who the f** is Ariana?"(Ariana laughs) and I think I just tweeted I was like "Who's Ariana?"(Ariana laughs) and I think you wrote back to me and I think that's the first.
Ariana: I was like "I'm Ariana" and you were like "Oh okay cool".
Ryan: Yeah, I didn't even know about the TV stuff till after, I knew about the music before the TV which is kinda crazy.
Benny: I didn't know about any.
Ariana: You know I shifted the focus nowadays I guess towards singing, things that I can really tell a story with and relate to more know what I mean?
Ariana: I'm more attached to things that are a little simpler and something about this was so effortlessly simply fantastic.
Ariana: I feel like I've had like flirtiness or humor to, a little, like a little bit of humor sa**iness or flirtiness to whatever I have done before, but this is like really...
Benny: It's real.
Ariana singing: Oh baby look at us, we've been living like angels, living like devils, oh baby look at us.
Ryan: The song itself is about two people that are at odds a lot of the time and they, they have this constant strife because half the time we're screaming our lungs out or were, or I'm crying.
Ariana: There's something very real about being free enough to feel miserable in a relationship, having somebody who's strong enough to go through your sh** with you is like actually... better.
Benny: Life isn't just about a straight path to have the ups you have to have the downs or the ups wouldn't feel as high.
Ariana singing: I'm loving the pain. I never wanna live without it.
Ryan: I find large cities to be the most inspiring, I'll just put on headphones and walk sometimes for hours until all the lyrics kind of fall into place.
Ryan: I don't care how good a singer's or how many YouTube looks or likes they freaking have, I either believe you or I don't and if I don't believe you, no one is going to believe you.
Benny: When she sings it you're just like "Whoa".
Ariana singing: You got me like...
Benny: We just kept building it, were just like, were just like, were just like "More! More!"
Ariana: More harmonies, that's my problem, that's when I get annoying in the studio, I never wanna stop with harmonies.
Ryan: Well you can go, you can do 7 part harmonies.
Ariana: Enough harmonies is never enough
Ryan: Yeah, yeah
Ariana: I'm obsessed
Ryan: Keep stacking (Ariana laughs)
Ariana: I remember you telling me to channel like Norwegian pop music and I was like "I don't know what that means".
Ryan: Why Try is the, is the, is the actual crux of the song and it needed to sound weird and I remember that was the only hard part explaining, I was like, I was like "You're singing it too good".
Ariana singing: I'm loving the pain. I never wanna live without it. So why-Y-y-Y-y-Y...
Ryan: Anybody can do na-na-na but the way it sung, with the bend NA-NA-NA-NA NA-na-na
Ariana singing: NA-NA-NA-NA-na-na-na (na-NA-na-NA-na) NA-NA-NA-NA-na-na-na (na-NA-na-NA-na) NA-NA-NA-NA-na-na-na NA-NA-NA-NA-na-na-na
Ryan harmonizing: NA-NA-NA-NA-NA-NA-naaaa. It likes that weird little bend at the end that makes it, that was hard.
Ariana: It's so creepy but it makes it
Ryan: It makes it, yeah.
Ariana: Quirky and interesting.
